"Heh. Whatever we want it to be... I don't really know what I want, Asriel. That's what's so hard. But for the very first time... when I think about the future, I have hope."
―Chara to Asriel Dreemurr[src]

Chara is the first human to have fallen into the Underground, becoming the adoptive son of the rulers Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel, as well as the adoptive brother and best friend of Asriel Dreemurr. As time went on, Chara and Asriel had a strong bond, being the best of brothers and friends towards each other. Wanting to free monsters from the Underground, Chara and Asriel conducted a plan, where Chara poisoned himself with buttercups, eventually dying of terminal illness, allowing Asriel to absorb Chara's SOUL in order to cross the Barrier. In his home village, Chara took control over Asriel and attempted to kill the humans there to obtain their SOULs in order to destroy the Barrier, but Asriel resisted and went back to New Home, allowing himself to get attacked by the villagers. When Asriel died of his wounds, Chara remained as a ghost who haunted the Underground for ages.

When Frisk fell into the Underground, Chara became his partner, watching Frisk make friends with the enemies he faced and eventually fighting Omega Flowey, a monstrous form of Asriel. Chara had observed Frisk using SAVE and his Determination to keep coming back to life after dying, and later on, in the True Pacifist Route, Frisk and Chara fought Asriel in his godly form. The two managed to save Asriel from his despair, bringing up his emotions with memories of his childhood with Chara. Afterwards, Asriel used his powers to break the Barrier, freeing all the monsters so that they could live happily on the Surface. However, Frisk had been resetting the timeline over and over again to relive the True Pacifist Route, and later he pushed the forces of space-time to its limits, going through dangerous routes after every reset, much to the chagrin of Chara. During the Genocide Route, HATE manifested inside Frisk's SOUL, and while it was corrupting the two humans, Chara was feeding off its energy to gain strength and reincarnate.

In his final battle with Sans, Frisk was about to reset and make up for his mistakes, but Chara took over and tried to kill Sans, but Frisk managed to sacrifice his life to save Sans, giving him his human SOUL. Powered up, Sans eliminated Chara before resetting, however, since he reseted at a moment he was not suppose to, this created glitches across space and time. When Frisk was about to activate Hard Mode, he infused the unbearable HATE into Chara, unintentionally corrupting him fully and brainwashing him into a psychopathic megalomaniac who was sent to the Void. One of the glitches allowed Chara to return to his home dimension, leading him to absorbing Determination and trying to extract Determination from Frisk. During the Battle at the True Lab, Chara fought against Sans and Flowey, winning the fight by obtaining Frisk's Determination, taking control over the timeline.

However, after freeing W. D. Gaster, the heroes fought against Chara once again, but his Determination was too strong, so Flowey was empowered by the SOULs of Frisk and the six fallen children, transforming Flowey into Asriel the God of Hyperdeath. While the siblings were inside a bubble of HATE, Chara explained how he had been corrupted before engaging in a fight. During it, Asriel, Frisk and the spirits fought against HATE and reminded Chara of all the fun memories he had with Asriel, freeing Chara from HATE. As the siblings reunited, Chara used the remains of his SOUL and the SOUL Traits from the other children to create a rainbow SOUL for Asriel so that he could live on as his normal self, while Chara would pass away. Chara emotionally bade farewell to his best friend before he was transported to the Void.

A month later, Frisk and his friends were faced against Bête Noire, so Frisk traveled to the Void, where he reunited with Chara. He was told by Frisk that Chara would obtain Frisk's SOUL so that they could supposedly switch places, with Chara being alive. However, Chara learned that Frisk was planning to replace himself with Chara, which would erase Frisk and everyone's memories of Frisk from existence, much to Chara's utter dismay. Chara returned to the timeline and he had his battle against a HATE-infused Asriel, holding onto Asriel's Heart Locket to make Asriel believe that was Chara's. He lured HATE from Asriel into himself, freeing his brother, while Chara maintained his normal mindset using hope. After Bête Noire was killed, HATE began attacking Determino, prompting a fierce final battle against the malevolent creature, and with the help of Asriel being the God of Hyperdeath, Chara slayed HATE, saving the world. Growing up, Chara continued being the best of friends with Asriel, content with humans and monsters finally making peace.

Chara is found by Asriel Dreemurr

"This is all your fault... we just had to get 6 souls... but you decided to show them mercy
you betrayed me Asriel
we ended up like this because of you"
―Chara to Flowey[src]

As a child, Chara traveled to Mount Ebott and fell into a large hole that led to the Underground. Landing in the entrance to Home, the fallen Chara was found by Asriel Dreemurr, who brought him into his home.[3] There, Chara was adopted by the rulers Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel, and Chara became the best of friends with his brother Asriel, growing a strong bond.[4] One day, Chara and Asriel ventured through Waterfall and heard music, so they went off to find the source of it. There, they found the ancient statue with an umbrella and water dripping on it, and they held hands while looking at it.[5]

Wanting to free monsters from the Underground, Chara conducted a plan. He planned to consume buttercups and die of a terminal illness, allowing Asriel to absorb his human SOUL in order to cross the Barrier, claim six other human SOULs and use the eight SOULs, including Asriel's, to destroy the Barrier, freeing everyone. Even though Asriel reluctantly agreed with this, Chara consumed buttercups and eventually passed away, much to the grief of his adoptive family. Asriel then absorbed Chara's SOUL, allowing Chara to control Asriel's transformed body.

Chara carried his own corpse across the Barrier and to his home village, where the human villagers assumed that Asriel killed Chara. As they were being attacked, Chara attempted to use his full power to destroy the villagers, but Asriel resisted, taking over his body and deciding to show them mercy. Asriel ventured back to the Underground with Chara's body in his hands, being struck by the humans without defending himself. Upon returning to New Home, Asriel collapsed on the flower bed, turning into dust. Toriel wanted to give Chara a proper burial, so she carried Chara's body to the Ruins, where she buried him on the spot he first landed in the Underground on. Since then, Chara had remained as a ghost, haunting the Underground for decades.[4]

I'm day dreaming about Chara

Chara observes Frisk fighting Sans

"But they are the one who started the genocide. No one ever forced them to do it. I'm just trying to finish what they started..."
―Chara to Asriel Dreemurr[src]

When Frisk confronts Sans at the Last Corridor, they started battling each other, and at everytime, Frisk was killed by Sans, but he always came back using his SAVE Point. At one round, Frisk's SOUL was being enveloped in HATE, and that HATE was corrupting Chara. Before fighting Sans again, Frisk was glitching between himself and a smiling Chara. During Frisk and Sans's Encounter, Chara sinisterly observed from behind Frisk.

I'm behind ya

Chara stops Frisk from resetting

As Frisk dodged Gaster Blasters, he momentarily switched into Chara. When Sans tried to use two Gaster Blasters on Frisk, the child switched into Chara and ran aside. In another round, Frisk was stabbed by two bones, and as he died, he glitched into Chara for one second. After many rounds of being killed, Frisk stood at the Load Screen. Feeling remorse, Frisk wanted to press the RESET button, but Chara, being infused with HATE and having a red and black aura, grabbed Frisk's arm with a HATE tentacle. Chara then trapped Frisk inside the Load Screen with a wall of HATE.

Chara prepares to fight Sans

Returning to life, Chara manifested into the Last Corridor, holding onto the Real Knife and beaming psychotically at the furious Sans. In their Encounter, Chara started running towards Sans, who sent an array of bones towards Chara. After standing still, Chara happily dodged the bones and sliced three bones, and at one moment, he threw the knife into the air and caught it in his hand. Speeding towards Sans, Chara tried to brutally strike Sans, but Sans dodges his attacks and teleported a few feet away.

Sans then turned Chara's SOUL blue and tried to force him into a wall of bones. However, Chara, still smiling, used his knife to stab into the floor, preventing him from being slammed into the bones just by a few inches. Chara, with his face completely demented with bleeding eyes, black scleras and a gapping, wide mouth, continued attacking Sans, who still dodged him.[2][1]

*Determination[]

IMG 7322

Chara is revived by HATE caused by a glitch, with the intent to destroy the timeline and erase it. He gains more Determination by killing the Amalgamates, absorbing their Determination. Thus matching the Determination even Frisk possesses.

Chara then awaits for Frisk to come closer to the Determination Extractor and encases him in it. Flowey pops out around the corner of an elevator, wondering why he was taking so long, only to see Frisk being grabbed by Chara. Knowing Chara's intentions, Flowey flees to Sans, regardless of his hatred towards him, and tells him of Chara's return.

Then Sans and Flowey briskly teleport within the True Lab, where Chara seems to be harnessing Frisk's determination for himself. Noticing the threat Sans and Flowey represent, Chara places a Hate Shield around the extractor.

IMG 7295

Under these circumstances, Chara winds up calling Sans the "comedian," Flowey the "Traitor," and himself a "Megalomaniac" right before shooting at the duo. Being able to dodge it, Sans strikes them with a homing bone that slices through their cheek, landing a small wound on Chara. However, as if it never happened, he wiped the blood off his cheek. With his demonic smile, he strikes the ground and summoned his "Special Hell" attack.

When Sans is recovering from an overuse of power, Chara moves towards Flowey, blaming them that this entire situation is his fault alone. If Asriel Dreemurr went through the barrier and collected 6 souls, the monsters would have been free, this results in Chara quoting Flowey's words, "It's Kill or be Killed, after all."

After the Determination Extractor extracts Frisk's soul magic, the trio resume fighting despite Sans having lost a considerable amount of magic. He throws a bone at Chara, but it is blocked. Sans teleports to the extracted determination, but Chara summons a wall to block him, and blows it up, forcing Sans to teleport out of the way. Chara glitches towards the determination, reaching out to grab it, but Flowey pulls them back with a vine. Sans teleports, reaching out to grab the Determination just as Chara had, but Chara cuts off his locked-down arm and takes the Determination, leaving an exhausted and demoralized Sans and Flowey with a weakened Frisk.

Chara is seen near a newly created save file with his name on it, along with the LV dashed out and the flavor text marked as "* Determination." His arm also regenerated, but it is now encased in HATE with a spike at the end. The episode ends with Sans and Flowey leaving, right after Chara's maniacal laughter.

Your Best Friend[]

Knowing the severity of the situation and Chara's intentions, Sans takes a risk by using a lot of his energy to summon the "Wall of Gaster Blasters". It doesn't affect Chara as his soul refuses to die. Flowey summons his Hope Cannon to back down Chara's hate, although this works more and seems to be stronger than anything far imagined, Flowey loses his souls and is greatly weakened consequence.

Frisk uses all his power to protect Flowey and, as a last resort, gives him his soul, returning Flowey to his true form, Asriel.[5]

Asriel then holds the locket Chara gave him before the last timeline is erased. As he begins to believe that Chara kept his locket, the HATE spreads, and he again attacks Chara, blaming him for all that happened to him. At random points in the fight, Asriel can resist hurting Chara and tells them that they need to kill him to destroy the HATE entirely. Despite the many blows he endured, Chara refuses to fight back.

Flowey explains that this was where Asriel left him and that Chara needs to kill both him and Asriel to win and destroy HATE. However, Chara refuses to hurt their family as he recalls how Asriel gave hope to him and taught him how to live. As HATE starts flying into Chara's soul, Flowey yells at him to stop; however, Chara tells him that he's not taking HATE but lets it inside him instead, thus freeing Asriel from it. Before Chara could fully be consumed, Asriel encourages Chara not to give in and brings forth his locket. Chara is then saved before the HATE could take over, as relieved brothers embrace each other. Asriel tells Chara he thought he was a crybaby, but Chara tells him that this was an exception.

Soon, they arrive at an area where Chara takes a fatal hit for Papyrus when he was being hallucinated by HATE that has taken full control over Bête Noire's body and powers. While Asriel Dreemurr checks on Papyrus, Chara stands up to the monster, declaring how he will show it his Animosity as his scleras turn black from HATE that he has now 'tamed'.

Hope[]

Chara, Asriel, an exhausted Papyrus and an unconscious Gaster stand before HATE. Chara tells Asriel to get the skeletons to safety. Asriel protests, but Chara tells him there is no time for plans. HATE takes the opportunity to attack the distracted boy using an inverted perseverance claw, but Papyrus manages to use his telekinesis to pull Chara away at the last second. Chara and Asriel agree that the Asriel will come back after he escorts the skeletons, and Chara turns to HATE. HATE attacks Chara with an Inverted Perseverance claw, but Chara blocks it with a shield, the claw manages to puncture the shield and the fingers begin to glow. Chara explodes his shield and sends the hand flying as HATE detonates its fingers, causing a large explosion in the air. Chara worries about the creature's immense power, and that he has know ideas what its abilities are, and realizes he needs a bigger space if he wants to fight. HATE takes this chance to activate Special Hell, Chara's own special attack, on Chara, with the boy barely blocking it. Chara runs to get to a bigger space, and HATE gives chase. Chara barely dodges HATE inverted justice laser, and takes a moment to rest behind a building. HATE uses inverted integrity to try and force Chara into the ground, but then decides to blast him with a wave of kinetic force; shattering the barrier around the city and sending Chara flying towards the canyon. Chara creates a sphere around himself to block the impact, and states it's his turn. HATE attempts to stab Chara but Chara slices its arm off. HATE replaces its missing arm with a tendril of inverted patience, and attacks Chara. However, Chara manages to block and grab the tendril. HATE pulls the boy toward it, and tries to strike him again. Chara activates his animosity even more, letting it cover half his face, and blocks HATE's hand and stabs HATE, unleashing Special Hell inside its body, and creating a massive crater.

An exhausted Chara looks to the crater, only to find that HATE now has Determination, is wielding a red greatsword, and has transformed into a full body. The two clash briefly, with Chara cutting HATE face, but HATE breaks Chara's sword and sends him flying. Chara is caught by Asriel, and the two attack from above, but HATE overpowers them both. Chara is hit into the air, and puts up a weak shield as HATE strikes again from above, knocking Chara momentarily unconscious. Asriel manages to pull his brother away as the evil creature slams into the ground, but right after he does, HATE concentrates Determination magic into the canyon floor. Asriel blasts both him and Chara up into the air to avoid the affects of HATE's attack. Chara then wakes up and screams at Asriel to look out, as HATE prepares to attack the two.

At this moment, Asriel decides to let go of Chara, causing him to utilize a platform to save himself from fall damage. Asriel then launches himself towards HATE with his sword, but is ultimately decimated instead. Chara, witnessing his brother’s death, begins crying, gradually proceeding towards being consumed by his Animosity.

As Asriel's soul shatters, it seems that it's all over. However, his soul suddenly refuses, and he transforms into a weaker variant of his Hyperdeath form. Asriel, with his new form, and Chara, with his Animosity, utilize teamwork to defeat the HATE. In the end, Chara launches HATE into Asriel's Hyper Goner by utilizing countless slashes.

After the explosion caused by the Hyper Goner, Chara and Asriel are returned to their normal forms. However, HATE manages to temporarily survive the attack, now possessing an incredibly weakened state, as parts of its body slowly disintegrate. HATE, furious with Asriel, attempts to launch towards him. However, Chara steps in front of his brother, blocking HATE from getting any closer. The creature, witnessing this, decides to stop, and subsequently fades away. Chara and Asriel quickly express relief, realizing that they had finally won. The two, completely exhausted from the battle, decide to lay on the ground of the canyon to rest. Chara, with tears in his eyes, thanks Asriel for being his brother, causing Asriel to cry as well. Both of the brothers, exhausted, yet filled with joy, rest on the ground as the scene fades.

Later, Chara is seen with Toriel, Asriel and Asgore at Toriel’s house. He is first seen ending a call with Ronan, to which Toriel questions who the caller was. Chara explains that the person, supposedly directly affiliated with the current district leader, Rave, had been requesting Chara’s potential service in the district’s new Wizard Council. Toriel appears to understand why they had chosen to call Chara, commenting on how much he had grown. Toriel asks Chara if he’ll consider the man’s offer, to which he appears uneasy. While contemplating a response, Asriel reassures Chara, stating that the two are destined to make the world a better place.

Later at night, Chara and Asriel can be seen in their bedroom. While staring in the night sky, Chara comments on how he didn't think they'd be together, happily living upon the surface once again, reminding Asriel about how unhappy he once was, prior to falling into the Underground, and expresses his unease over the future, wondering if he even deserves one. However, Asriel cheers him up slightly, by telling him that he does deserve better, and that the two can make the future whatever they want. Chara responds, saying that, although he doesn't know what he wants, for the very first time, he’s feeling hopeful about the future.

In the timeskip, Chara appears to be significantly older. The credits conclude with Chara and his brother sitting behind the newly formed "Determino Council."

Personality[]

"You taught me what hope can do. See the invisible. Feel the intangible. And achieve the impossible."
―Chara to Flowey[src]

In his early childhood residing in his birth village alongside humans, Chara lived in misery and discontent, feeling highly dejected and had no glimmer of hope for a bright future. His upbringing led Chara to despise his own species, so much so that he dreamed to obliterate his fellow villagers if he encompassed immense power. Unable to comprehend his miserable life any longer, the downhearted child fled from his home and into Mount Ebott, where he fell into the Underground. Chara, severely lacking positive thoughts back then, was visibly shocked by the kindness of Asriel Dreemurr, who aided him back at his home. Throughout Chara's first few days in the Underground, he felt nervous and slightly unsure of what to make of his newfound allies, monsters. By the time the Monster Royal Family decided to adopt him, Chara finally experienced a glint of hope upon the idea of being in a loving family. He was so overwhelmed with joy that he shedded tears and smiled while taking a family photo.

Now content with inhabiting a home where he was loved, Chara was a gleeful child who always enjoyed spending time with Asriel, deeply caring for the monster Prince. He also had a rather innocent behavior, enjoying drawing, eating chocolate, playing with toys and most of all, being together with Asriel, often holding hands with him. Furthermore, Chara is very approving of Asriel, and sometimes feel the urge to tease him with his sense of humor, referring to him as a crybaby for being emotionally sensitive. By the time he reached his early adolescent years, Chara deeply cared for monsters and prioritized their freedom from the Underground over his own family or life. This was why Chara chose to sacrifice himself for Asriel to absorb his SOUL, having less regards for the fact his family would be devastated. While possessing the body of his brother, who was empowered by Chara's own SOUL, Chara held onto his intense hatred for humans and desired to use his newfound power to annihilate them, but the pacifistic Asriel refrained Chara from doing so, much to his great chagrin.

Upon being woken as a spirit by the presence of Frisk, Chara felt inclined to partner up with him and guide the child through the Underground. Even beyond death, Chara maintained his sense of humor, often acting bold, lively and jokingly rude as he would poke fun at Frisk, but nonetheless, he was willing to serve as the narrator for Frisk's story. Chara proved to be a valuable asset to Frisk as he ventured through, but the most pivotal moment when Chara aided him was during the Battle of the Underground, where the pair were against Asriel in his God of Hyperdeath form. Through Frisk, he managed to SAVE his brother from his inner despair by reminding him of their happiest memories together, and when Asriel desperately refused their attempts to comfort him, Chara persisted in using the SAVE option, wishing to help Asriel out of love.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Magic: Chara possesses a high level of mastery over a particular type of magic which he used mainly to defend himself in battle.
    • Chromatic Magic: Chara is able to shape and manipulate Chromatic Magic, forming tangible constructs of energy, such as the Sword, Shield and Knife of Determination with glowing red energy.
      • Determination: Bearing the strongest out of the seven SOUL Traits, Chara is gifted with abilities and strengths far greater than any regular Traited human. It is solely empowered by Chara's will to live. Having been deceased for almost three centuries, Chara had been unable to utilize this Trait as a ghost accompanying Frisk. However, during the Genocide Route, Frisk's merciless actions had caused his stats to increase. In turn, Chara became stronger and more capable of returning to a corporeal form. Whilst brainwashed by HATE, Chara had gained the ability to momentarily switch places with Frisk in the living realm, thus borrowing his human SOUL and Determination. Chara had completely stolen Frisk's place and SOUL of Determination in the Battle at the Last Corridor in order to fight Sans.
        • SOUL Persistence: To be added
        • Knife Mastery: Chara was shown to be skilled with using knives.
        • Shield Mastery: Chara is skilled with mixing their shield with their fighting skills to block attacks or use it offensively.
        • Sword Mastery: Like their knife, Chara is skilled with using their sword in battles.
  • Speed & Strength: Chara can occasionally move at speeds where their movement is not entirely clear, and can hit physical targets a pretty far distance away.

  • Glitch Teleportation: Chara can teleport to other places when they are about to be hit by other attacks to avoid them.
  • Enhanced Skills: Driven by HATE, Chara's Determination leads them to focus on their priority and to make sure it's done.
  • Reset Paralysis: Like Gaster, Chara is able to disable Frisk's ability to RESET.
  • ERASE Button: Chara can build an alternate reset button that erases the timeline from the Universe permanently.
  • Rainbow Knife: Using the extracted Determination of the other humans, Chara can alter their knife to accommodate the souls' individual powers and use them for diabolical purposes.
  • Special Hell: Chara stabs their knife in the ground, covering the ground with red energy. The red energy then goes up and damages anyone around it.
  • FILE 0: Glitches allow Chara to use an ability named "FILE 0", which allows them to manipulate their LV, HP, ATK, DEF at their own will.
  • But it Refused: If Chara manages to be extremely determined, dies in during battle, Chara can immediately return to the battle with maximum HP as if their soul had never been damaged. This event has happened once in "Your Best Friend".

  • Sword and Shield: Chara can project a Shield of Determination, which has the ability to block almost anything and can create a sword of Determination, which can send magical attacks. These abilites were inherited by Frisk when Chara absorbed his soul in My Promise.
  • Knife: Referencing the Worn Dagger/Real Knife item from the original game, and later the multi-colored magic knife from Season 1, the knife is Chara's most distinctive weapon. In this instance, it is made out of pure Determination magic. It can be wielded simultaneously with the sword, as seen near the end of Game Over.
  • Regeneration: As a DETERMINATION user, Chara has the ability to heal his own wounds like Frisk and Undyne.
  • Dual wielding: When Frisk gives Chara his soul, this gives him the ability to summon both his knife and Frisk's sword. The abilities and uses of this sword are the same as Frisk's sword. However, Chara wields it differently.
  • Special Hell: When Chara stabs the ground with his dagger, the floor would become the color red, which would explode instead as seen in both *Determination. and Ḣ̸͈a̷̞̽ẗ̵̥́e̸̟͒.

    Trivia[]

    • In Undertale, Chara, also known as the fallen human, is the first human to fall into the Underground. Chara is their "true name" on the naming screen, though their name typically varies on what the player enters. They are distinct from the eighth fallen human, who is the protagonist in the game.
    • Out of all three of the DETERMINATION users, Chara has the strongest DETERMINATION.
    • Before My Promise came out, Chara existed in the void.[6]
    • Frisk's Determination could not match that of Chara's.[7][8]
    • Chara was the one that gave Asriel the nickname "Cry Baby".
    • Chara's original eye color is brown but with Determination, it's red as their eyes would reflect their soul.[9]
    • Camila Cuevas supports the "Chara Is Not Evil" theory.[10][11]
    • Sans' machine can't bring Chara back before the events of My Promise.[12]
    • Asriel Dreemurr can't return Chara's soul to them.[13]
    • Chara was in the void because they died of unnatural causes. (ex: fell into the CORE, gave your soul away) [14]
    • Some of Chara's attacks can be used by wizards.[15]
    • If the hard mode weren't activated, Chara would never have come back in Season 1, and those fights would have never happened.[16]
    • Chara's appearance resembles Copper Lightvale's appearance.
    • Chara was a soulless being filled with their trait when "*Determination" started. But by the end of it, when Chara created a SAVE FILE, the game/world itself gave Chara a new SOUL of their own.
      • Since only a human with a soul of Determination can have a SAVE FILE, the game/world treated the SOULLESS Chara as a glitch. And to try to fix it, a new SOUL was created.
        • After giving their SOUL to Asriel Dreemurr, Chara went back to the void. To the game/world, Chara isn't dead, but they aren't alive either. When this happens, and when they have no SOUL to exist in the world, they get sent into the void. (also known as "the game code")
        • When Chara died, the Hate was already taken out of him, so it wasn't destroyed.
    • HATE had nothing to do with Chara. The HATE was coming from everyone underground, while Frisk attempted the genocide route. Therefore the monsters hated him for killing everyone, and as a result, Frisk hated them back.[17]
      • Because the HATE was not destroyed, all of it had to go somewhere, so it went to the first host it found, which was Chara.
    • Chara didn't kill the Amalgamates; they just absorbed the Amalgamates' determination, and this caused the Amalgamates' to turn to dust.[18]
    • Chara alone (without the HATE) still had a point about erasing the timeline, as shown in Love Part 2.
    • No one takes Chara's place at the end of My Promise.[19]
    • Chara does not remember Frisk or their promise.[20]
    • If Chara dies, the timeline will still glitch out of existence until Bete is dead.[21]
      • This isn't the case anymore however, as Bete has died.
    • In Camila's speedpaint "Farewell Frisk", Frisk's soul had a black outline that was proof of little HATE. Camila confirmed that the HATE is enough to enhance some attacks and believes it can be an advantage, not a problem.[22]
    • After Frisk got erased from the timeline entirely, Chara and Asriel's memory of what happened in Continue changed; Chara was saved from HATE by Asriel, the six human souls created a special soul for Asriel, and through a combined effort, he was able to break the barrier.[23]
    • Frisk and Chara were really good friends that it got to the point where Frisk knew Chara better than anyone. [24]
    • Chara and Asriel are the only ones who could cause problems to timeline changes. [25]
    • At the end of Game Over, Chara is seen with both a knife and a sword. It is unknown what he will be able to do with these simultaneously, but it shows that he can summon both at the same time and utilize them.
    • Chara and Asriel have a better understanding of the game functions, as well as Sans.[26]
    • It is known that as an adult, Chara still possesses Animosity, as once Hate has entered inside of a soul it can never get out.
    • When Chara tossed his sword and Asriel swapped places with it in "Hope", it's similar to the anime Naruto. Whether or not this was intentional is unknown.

    Behind the Scenes[]

    • Chara in Glitchtale is the third animated incarnation of the character, following a non-voiced incarnation and the second one voiced by Jane Redd.
    • Chara was given a new design starting from the Glitchtale episode Love, foregoing his previous design based on his mainstream game appearance in favor of one more mature and adolescent.
    • Before the release of My Promise, due to conflict among the Glitchtale fan community debating on Frisk's gender, Camila Cuevas wrote in that Frisk is male,[27][28] and she implemented that aspect into Chara.

NO ONE NOTICED FROM SEASON 1: Chara went after the amalgamates not some monster in Hotland not some monster in Waterfall but specifically for the amalgamates. Chara could've gone to kill Undyne as well and could have gotten infinite DT but from the entire underground the ones that would cause less guilt to kill were also the amalgamates. Hate wasn't in full effect yet and Chara still felt guilty since those were the only choices they had of course. Later on, they went on and they successfully killed Sans and Frisk, since Frisk deserved it and for Sans, as it is because of the last timeline. Still, Chara could've killed Gaster and Flowey many times and they didn't, they weren't trying to kill not if it wasn't necessary they just wanted to reset the timeline. Chara didn't kill Frisk in *Determination because the file has to be with a valid name before resetting so it can be a successful Reset so they took control of it first and then tried to Reset.
